The UNESCO trails of the Vinschgau Valley offer hiking routes that combine scenic landscapes with centuries of history. The valley is home to the Waalweg trails, ancient paths running alongside the traditional irrigation channels that have been used for centuries. These routes meander through a variety of landscapes, from sprawling vineyards and fruit orchards to dense larch forests. Many of the trails wind past medieval monasteries, and traditional mountain villages, giving hikers glimpses of centuries-old architecture against the stunning alpine landscape. A particularly notable route is the Via Claudia Augusta, a Roman road that once served as a key trade route connecting Italy to regions further north.
